A poultry farm and hatchery at Opeikuma, Kasoa

Halaal Farms Ghana is a hatchery, an importer of foreign day-old chicks and a poultry farm on one site at Opeikuma, Kasoa. It sells chicks, eggs, pullets, chicken, feed, medicines and equipment, hatches customers' eggs, and welcomes visits by appointment.

Halaal Farms Ghana does three jobs on one site at Opeikuma in Kasoa. It hatches day-old chicks, it imports foreign day-old chicks, and it keeps poultry. That is why the list of things you can buy here runs from a box of chicks to a crate of eggs, a dressed chicken, a bag of feed and an incubator. This page sets out what the farm sells, who each product suits, how to visit, and how to find Kasoa from Accra and from the Cape Coast side.

One site in Kasoa, on the edge of Accra but in the Central Region

People often look for a "poultry farm in Accra" and end up in Kasoa, and that is reasonable. Kasoa sits on the Accra to Cape Coast road about 28 km west of central Accra, and the capital's suburbs now run almost unbroken to its edge. On the map, though, Kasoa is in the Central Region. It is the capital of the Awutu Senya East Municipality, and Opeikuma is one of the municipality's communities.

Halaal Farms has this one location. There is no second site and no shop in another town. Everything you buy is either collected at Opeikuma or leaves from there, and customers in all 16 regions of Ghana are supplied from this address. If anyone offers you our chicks from somewhere else, check with us on 024 915 1503 before you pay them.

From the hatchery: day-old chicks and fertile eggs

The hatchery side is what most buyers come for. Day-old chicks are sold in ventilated boxes of 50, with one box as the minimum order, and they are vaccinated at the hatchery before they leave. Ask what your batch has had.

These starting prices were checked on 2 October 2026 and they change, so the price list and the figure we confirm for your hatch date are what count. The page on day-old chicks for sale in Ghana explains how to choose between the birds.

Two other things come from the hatchery. Fertile hatching eggs are sold to farmers who have their own incubator. Farmers who have their own cock and hens but no incubator can use the egg hatching service: you bring your fertile eggs and we hatch them for a fee.

From the poultry houses: eggs, pullets, live birds and dressed chicken

The farm side sells birds and eggs past the chick stage.

  • Table eggs by the crate. A crate holds 30 eggs. This suits households, shops, egg sellers, bakers and anyone who cooks for numbers.
  • Point-of-lay pullets. Young layers of about 16 to 18 weeks, reared and close to their first egg, for farmers who want eggs soon without doing the brooding and rearing. Supply depends on the flocks being reared, so ask early. The page on point-of-lay pullets shows what to check.
  • Live chickens. Broilers at market weight, cockerels, and old layers. An old layer is a hen at the end of her laying life. She costs less than a broiler and her firmer meat is what many cooks want for light soup.
  • Dressed chicken. Birds slaughtered, plucked and cleaned, for homes, caterers and events. Order ahead for an event, and ask us how the birds are processed if that matters to you.

None of these has a price on the website. Their prices follow the cost of feed, the weight or size of what is available and the quantity you want, and all of those move from month to month. Ask, and you get today's price before you pay.

Feed, medicines, equipment and incubators in the same place

A chick is only the first purchase. Before it arrives you need feed in the store, drinkers and feeders on the floor, and a heat source that works. The farm sells:

  • Poultry feed for each stage of the bird's life;
  • Vaccines and medicines. Vaccines must stay cold from the seller's fridge to your farm, so bring a flask or cool box with ice. Treatment of sick birds is for a vet or the district veterinary office to decide, not the counter;
  • Equipment: feeders, drinkers, brooders and cages;
  • Incubators for farmers who want to hatch their own eggs.

Tell us the bird and the number you plan to keep, and what you already own. We then say what is in stock and what it costs. No brands, sizes or prices are listed here because stock changes, and a list that is out of date helps nobody.

Setup help, training and free advice for people starting out

Many buyers who come to a hatchery are starting their first flock. Three kinds of help are available.

Free advice comes with every enquiry, before and after an order: which bird fits your plan, how many to begin with, what to have ready. Poultry farm setup is a paid service for people who want help planning a new farm. Training is for new farmers and for the workers who will look after the birds day to day. For setup and training, tell us what you want to achieve, and what is covered and what it costs is agreed with you before anything starts.

If you are at the very beginning, two articles will save you money before you speak to anyone: how to start a poultry farm in Ghana and whether to start with broilers or layers.

Visiting Opeikuma by appointment

You are welcome to see the farm before you buy. Call 024 915 1503 or use the form to fix a day and time. The appointment is not a formality. It means someone is free to attend to you, your order is ready if you are collecting, and the hatchery can control who comes in and when.

That last point matters on any poultry site. Disease travels on shoes, clothes, crates and car tyres, and day-old chicks are the birds least able to cope with it. So come in clean clothes and footwear, do not come straight from another poultry farm or a live-bird market, and leave your own crates and egg trays in the vehicle until you are told where to put them. The reasoning is explained in our article on biosecurity on a small farm, and it applies to your own gate as much as ours.

Use the visit well. Bring your questions written down: the strain, the hatch date, the vaccines given, how the chicks will travel. Our list of questions to ask a hatchery is a good starting point. If you are collecting chicks on the same trip, come early in the morning in a vehicle with windows that open.

Finding Kasoa from Accra, Cape Coast and Swedru

From Accra. From the centre, head west through Kaneshie to Mallam Junction, join the Accra to Cape Coast road (the N1) and continue past Weija. Kasoa is the first large town after you cross into the Central Region. On an empty road the trip takes well under an hour. On a working day the section between Mallam and Kasoa is slow, and one to two hours is the safer allowance. If you are coming from the Kumasi road or from Tema, the N1 highway carries you round the north of the city to Mallam without passing through the centre. Trotros and buses for Kasoa load at Kaneshie and other Accra stations.

From the Cape Coast side. The same road runs east from Cape Coast through Mankessim, Apam Junction and Winneba Junction, then Awutu Bereku and Budumburam, and reaches Kasoa before it reaches Accra. Cape Coast is a little over 100 km away. Any Accra-bound vehicle on this road passes through Kasoa, so tell the driver's mate where you are getting down.

From Agona Swedru and Bawjiase. A 16 km road links Bawjiase to Kasoa from the north-west. It was in poor condition for years and has been under reconstruction, so ask about its state before you choose it. The longer but surer way is down to Winneba Junction and along the main road.

Opeikuma itself is inside the Kasoa area, and we give you directions from the main road when your visit is booked.

Buying without making the trip

Most of Ghana is too far from Kasoa for a morning visit, and you do not have to come. Send the order form on this page, call 024 915 1503 or write to support@halaalfarmsghana.com, and say what you need and which town you are in. For chicks, we confirm the price, the hatch date and the delivery cost before you pay, and no payment is taken on the website. Payment is by cash, mobile money or bank transfer. The steps are set out on the page about how to order day-old chicks, and how chicks travel to a station in your city has a page of its own.

Questions buyers ask

Is Kasoa in Greater Accra or in the Central Region?

Kasoa is in the Central Region. It is the capital of the Awutu Senya East Municipality and lies on the Accra to Cape Coast road, about 28 km west of central Accra. Because it has grown into the edge of the capital, many people think of it as part of Accra, and for Accra farmers it is close enough to collect in person.

Can I come to the farm without booking?

Please book first. Visits are welcome by appointment, which lets us have someone free to attend to you and have your order ready if you are collecting. A hatchery also has to limit who walks through and when, because visitors can carry disease from other farms on shoes, clothes and vehicles. Call 024 915 1503 to fix a time.

How do I get to Kasoa from Accra by public transport?

Kasoa is on the main Accra to Cape Coast road, so trotros and buses run there all day from Kaneshie and other Accra stations, passing Mallam and Weija. The distance is short but the Mallam to Kasoa stretch is often slow, so allow one to two hours on a working day. We give directions to Opeikuma when you book.

Can I buy chicks, feed and equipment together in one order?

Yes. The farm sells day-old chicks, poultry feed, vaccines and medicines, and equipment such as feeders, drinkers and brooders, so a first flock can be put together in one place. Tell us the bird and the number you plan to keep, and we will confirm what is available and the prices before you pay.

Do you sell to people who live far from Kasoa?

Yes. Customers in all 16 regions are supplied from Opeikuma. Day-old chicks travel in ventilated boxes of 50 by bus or cargo vehicle to a station in your city, where you collect them, and the delivery cost is confirmed before you pay. For other products, tell us your town and we will say what can be sent.

Why do some products have no price on the website?

Day-old chicks have published starting prices. Eggs, pullets, live and dressed chicken, feed, medicines and equipment do not, because their prices move with feed cost, quantity and what is available that week. A figure printed here would soon be wrong, so we give today's price when you ask and confirm it before you pay.
