The Noiler is a local hatch bird that does a little of everything. It gives eggs, it gives meat, and it can look after itself in a yard. For a household or a small farm in Sekondi-Takoradi, that is often exactly what is wanted: a flock that feeds the family, sells a few birds at the weekend, and does not need a sealed house or a daily routine that eats the whole day. Noilers are also a sensible choice for a grower who wants a hardy bird in a humid place.

This page is for people who want Noiler chicks in Takoradi and the towns around it. We hatch and box the chicks at our farm in Opeikuma, Kasoa, and deliver them by road. Below you will find what the Noiler needs on the coast, how the chicks travel, how to brood them on arrival, and how to order.

Why Noilers suit Takoradi

Noilers are dual-purpose. A flock gives eggs for the table and birds for the pot, and the two can be sold separately. That matters in a city where a household may buy a tray of eggs one week and a cooked chicken the next. A seller with a Noiler flock can serve both needs without buying two different flocks.

The bird is hardy. It handles the heat and the damp of the coast better than a delicate imported layer, and it forages well when it has space. That makes it a good fit for the compounds, back gardens and small plots around the city, where the owner cannot give the birds a fully managed house. It still needs clean water, proper feed and a dry place to roost, but it asks for less than an imported line.

Be realistic about the market. A Noiler is slower to grow than an imported broiler and does not lay like an imported layer, and its price per chick is lower. Work out what your buyers will pay for a free-range or local bird before you plan the flock, and check today's feed price, because feed is still the largest cost on any farm.

How the chicks reach Takoradi from Kasoa

Our hatchery is in Opeikuma, Kasoa, and Takoradi is about 195 km away by road. The usual journey takes three and a half to four and a half hours. Traffic and the road that day change the time, so we give you a window and not a fixed hour. The chicks travel in ventilated boxes of 50, counted before they leave and sent on the hatch date you agreed with us.

Before we dispatch, we confirm three things with you in writing: the price, the hatch date and the delivery cost to your place in Takoradi or Sekondi. Nothing is paid until those are settled. Give us the name and phone number of the person who will collect the box, and the place where it should be left. A box that sits in the sun at a lorry station before anyone comes for it is a bad start.

Brooding Noiler chicks in a wet, humid coast

The first days of a Noiler chick matter as much as they do for any other bird. Set the brooder up before the box arrives. Lay dry litter, check the heat source and have clean water and starter feed within the chicks' reach. Keep the drinkers clean, because water left standing in humid weather goes bad quickly and the chicks will drink less of it.

On arrival, count the chicks in the box before lifting them out. Tell us the same day about any chicks that are dead on arrival, and we replace those free in the next hatch. Then watch the flock. Chicks that crowd into one corner are too cold or in a draught. Chicks that spread out and pant are too warm, or the air is not moving. Change one thing at a time, and watch again before you change the next.

Keep the brooder dry. Change wet litter around the drinkers as soon as you see it, because the coast turns a small damp patch into a smell and a problem quickly. Remove weak or sick chicks at once, so the problem does not spread to the rest.

When the chicks are big enough to go out, let them into the yard a little at a time. Pick the middle of the day, when the ground is dry, and bring them in before dusk. Give them shade in the yard. Keep the drinkers out of the sun and away from the muddy patches around the house. A yard that drains well makes a healthier flock than one that stays wet after every rain.

Every batch we send is vaccinated at hatch, and we tell you what was given, so your vet has the record from the first day. Ask your vet to plan the follow-up doses with you. Do not skip a dose because the birds look well, since some of these diseases move through a flock fast.

Selling Noiler birds and eggs in Takoradi

Start with the buyers you already know. Family, neighbours, the church or mosque community, the women who sell at your local market, and the small food sellers near your home are the first customers for a Noiler flock. Ask them what they buy, how often, and what they pay. A few regular buyers are worth more than a large one-off sale, and they will tell you early if the birds are the right size and the right price.

Eggs need care in this climate. Collect them at least once a day, keep them out of the heat, and deliver on a set day so buyers know when to expect them. Clean them gently and do not wash them with cold water straight from the tap if you can avoid it.

Birds for the pot sell best in the weeks around the festivals. Christmas, Easter, and Ramadan and Eid all bring families together and many people buy birds for the table. Plan the hatch date so the birds are ready for the week you need them, not after it.
