Noiler is a local dual-purpose bird, and we sell it at GH₵11 each, or GH₵550 for a box of 50. Families and small keepers choose it when they want meat and eggs from one flock without a large feed bill. We hatch Noiler day-old chicks at our farm in Opeikuma, Kasoa, about 30 km by road from Accra.
Every chick is vaccinated at hatch, and you buy them in boxes of 50. The farm is a short run from Accra, and you can collect the box yourself or have it delivered to your yard in the city.
This page is for keepers across the Greater Accra Region who want to know what happens from our hatchery to their yard: why Noiler suits the city, how the chicks travel, how to brood them, where the birds and eggs sell, and how to order.
Why Noiler suits Accra households
Noiler is a local, hardy dual-purpose bird. Families and small keepers in Accra choose it when they want the pot and the egg basket from the same flock. It also suits people who are still learning poultry, because the bird is hardy enough to forgive small mistakes while the routine settles in.
Accra's dry coastal savannah climate brings hot dry spells and two rainy seasons. A bird with local roots is a practical match for those conditions, but it still needs shade, dry litter and clean water through every season. Local does not mean careless. Keep the house as you would for any flock.
Noiler sits between a fast meat bird and a layer. It is useful for the family pot and for eggs, which is why many Accra keepers keep a few alongside other birds. Start with one box of 50, see how the flock performs in your yard, and build from there.
Think about the yard before the number. A dual-purpose bird scratches and forages, so a yard with some bare ground and some shade suits it well. A dusty compound with no cover is harder on the birds, and it tends to show in the heat.
How Noiler chicks reach Accra
Our hatchery is in Opeikuma, Kasoa, about 30 km by road from Accra. The usual journey takes one to two hours. Traffic decides where in that range your trip lands, so agree the timing with us when you order and let the household know when to expect the box.
You can collect from the farm, or we can deliver to you in Accra on a short run. We confirm the delivery cost, the hatch date and the price before you pay. Boxes travel ventilated and closed, and they should not wait in a hot vehicle while you finish other errands.
Make sure the brooder is ready before the box is due. A house that is clean, dry and warm on the day is the simplest way to give Noiler chicks the start they need.
What to check when the box opens
Open the box as soon as it reaches the house, in a shaded spot, and check it while the person who delivered it is still there. Count the chicks against your order. Look for alert birds that are standing and moving about, with clear eyes and no pasting around the vent.
Note any dead chicks on the spot and tell us the same day. Keep the lid off only as long as you need to move the chicks. A box that stays open in the sun or in a draught dries the birds out and chills them, and a fresh chick has no reserves for that.
Brooding Noiler chicks in a city yard
Set up a warm, dry brooder before the chicks arrive. Clean the floor, lay fresh litter, fill the drinkers and set the feeders in an easy spot. Keep the pen free of draughts and away from the cooking fire and the road. Noiler chicks are hardy, but they are still chicks, and the first days are when they need you most.
In a crowded yard, keep the brooder away from pets and from children who might handle the chicks too much. Store the feed in a dry place out of the rain. Damp feed spoils quickly in coastal humidity, so buy in amounts you can use in good time.
When the birds are feathered and strong, give them more space. Dual-purpose birds like room to forage, and a secured run with shade gives them that without much cost. Ask us for the feeding plan, since a dual-purpose flock needs a balanced feed for growth and for laying. Vaccinated at hatch, the birds will need the next doses on schedule, so ask us for those dates and note them in your book.
Set the drinkers on a clean, raised base so the litter does not foul the water. Chicks that drink dirty water are quick to show it, and cleaning the drinkers daily costs far less than treating a sick flock.
Selling Noiler birds and eggs in Accra
Noiler sells as a whole bird and as eggs. Home cooks buy birds for family meals, and small chop bars and cooked-food sellers buy them when they want a local-style chicken on the menu. Households and small shops buy the eggs, so one yard can serve both kinds of buyer.
Festive seasons push demand up. Christmas, Easter, Eid al-Adha and Homowo all bring orders from families who want a local bird for the table. Plan the flock so the birds are ready before those dates, and talk to your buyers in good time.
Keep the birds in good condition as the festive date nears. Birds that are fed well and kept calm reach market in better shape, and a buyer who sees a good bird is more likely to come back.
Keep sales simple at first. Sell to the buyers you can reach on foot or by phone, note what they take each week and adjust the flock as you learn. Our minimum is one box of 50, and that is enough to test a local market.
Agree the terms before the birds are ready. Ask each buyer whether they want the bird live, dressed or in pieces, and settle the price and a collection day in advance. A bird that waits without a buyer keeps eating every day it stays in the yard.
